Recruitment drive for disaster team members:

The Shelterbox Trust-UK, World Headquarters & Operations Centre for assembly and distribution of all Shelterboxes first deployed Disaster Teams during the Southeast Asia tsunami relief efforts. Initially named 4R Teams (Rotary, Reconnaissance, Relief and Recovery), these groups are typically made up of one Rotarian leader and 3 'civilians' with experience or skills useful for disaster relief work and are now known as SRT (Shelterbox Response Team).

"Service Above Sweat"

UK SRT members also worked in Mississippi in initial Katrina relief efforts, and accompanied Pakistani mule trains loaded with Shelterboxes into the Kashmir Mountains after the October earthquake.

A recruitment drive is now on for US Team members. Candidates must be physically active, in good health (current overseas immunizations desirable) & available for two-week international deployments with little prior notice. Equipment/housing provided, travel and food expenses covered. Members must be able to travel 'light' and quickly adapt /cope with disaster conditions, frequently in third-world countries.

Membership in Rotary is not required. Para-military training (police, firefighting, EMT) is desirable, but also not required.

Disclaimer: The 'ShelterBox Trust' and in conjunction, ShelterBox USA, will only distribute aid material on the basis of need and within safe and achievable operating parameters. Location and time specific donations cannot be accepted.
