Volunteer Opportunities

Fundraisers and Representitives

ShelterBox USA depends on a corps of dedicated volunteer Representatives throughout the nation to fundraise and promote our disaster relief efforts. We are looking for individuals and teams to make presentations to Rotary clubs and service, religious, professional, and youth groups. We equip our Reps with materials, DVDs, training resources, and frequent updates, and they spread the word throughout their communities. This opportunity is particularly suited to Rotarians, other service-oriented individuals, and experienced speakers and fundraisers. If you are interested in getting involved as a ShelterBox Rep, please contact us at shelterboxusa.org.

Youth Coordinators

In 2009, ShelterBox USA is forming a team of volunteer Youth Coordinators to bring ShelterBox into schools, colleges, and youth groups. Like our Representatives, Youth Coordinators make presentations to young audiences and help them develop fundraisers to sponsor ShelterBoxes. This opportunity is particularly suited to current and retired teachers, professors, scout and youth group leaders, and college students and alum. If you are interested in becoming a member of our Youth team, please contact us at schools@shelterboxusa.org.

ShelterBox Response Team (SRT)

Delivering Aid Direct
SRTs in the field.

Delivering aid direct: ShelterBox prides itself on getting aid direct to the people who need it most – and one of the ways we achieve that is through our ShelterBox Response Teams or SRTs.

Members of our SRTs are all volunteers and come from all walks of life. The first teams were deployed following the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. Since then, SRT members have delivered ShelterBoxes to victims of disasters in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe and South America.

Applying to become an SRT should not be a decision taken lightly. We are looking for fit, hard working, resourceful people, who can apply themselves and make the right decisions when under pressure.

Apart from the human tragedy, the infrastructure of the affected area may be in ruins.

This means our teams must be totally self-sufficient – capable of operating without adding to the burden of the people we are there to help.

Selection process:

Interview
For US residents this will be at one of our regional interview weekends or by video conferencing. If you are successful at the interview stage you will go through to selection weekend.

Selection Weekend
The weekend will test basic fitness and interpersonal skills. The applicants will be constantly monitored and assessed by the ShelterBox Program Director and current SRT members. If successful you will be put forward to our quarterly Nine Day Training Courses.

Nine Day Training Course
This is a residential course in Cornwall.
This is a very intensive course where applicants will be trained on logistics, security and 'how to get the job done'.

The first stage for anyone interested in joining the team is to complete an SRT Application Form.

ShelterBox USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, warmth, and comfort to survivors of disaster worldwide.
