Flooding and volcanic activity

Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) struck the Philippines on September 26 causing widespread devastation, particularly in the capital Manila.

As of September 29, reports stated more than 1.9 million people had been effected, with close to 375,000 abandoning their homes and 246 people losing their lives. More than a month's worth of rain fell on Manila and the surrounding areas in under 24 hours leaving more than 80 percent of the city, with a population of 15 million people, underwater.

A ShelterBox Response Team and an initial consignment of ShelterBoxes were dispatched to the region immediately after the typhoon struck.
