Flooding and volcanic activity

An undersea earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale created a tsunami that struck the Solomon Islands in April 2007, producing 10-meter high waves that destroyed hundreds of homes along the coastline of the island chain.  Following the earthquake and resulting tsunami, around 15,000 residents of Gizo fled to hilltop camps.

ShelterBox sent 200 boxes to the island of Gizo, where the worst damage had occured. Working with Rotarians from Australia and the Solomons, the boxes were distributed by ShelterBox to residents of Gizo and surrounding, smaller islands.
