Flooding and volcanic activity

Days of torrential rain swept across Central America in October 2005, causing widespread flooding and mudslides.  In Guatemala, around 1,500 people were confirmed dead and up to 3,000 believed missing. In the country's second largest city, Quetzaltenango hundreds of homes, businesses and public buildings were destroyed.  However, worst hit were rural communities.  Mayan communities who inhabit the highlands saw whole villages obliterated.  ShelterBox sent tents for 1,200 people, plus 20 boxes of ancillary supplies, for distribution by the Salvation Army.
