Flooding and volcanic activity

Severe floods caused by heavy rain devastated large areas of the Dominican Republic in May 2004.  The rains caused several rivers to break their banks, flooding nearby towns and villages. The situation was made worse by a combination of deforestation and poverty with mudslides overwhelming poorly constructed houses. Working through the Salvation Army teams on the ground, ShelterBox was able to send 25 boxes each containing 2 tents.  This provided shelter for up to 500 people.
