Flooding and volcanic activity

A series of eruptions by the Tungurahua volcano, about 80 miles (130 km) south of the capital Quito, resulted in molten rock and ash raining down on surrounding villages – forcing an estimated 25,000 people to leave their homes.

Following a request from the Rotary Club of Quito Valle Interoceanico, tents for up to 2,000 people were set up in camps at a safe distance from the volcano by a ShelterBox Response Team and members of Ecuador's National Civil Defence agency.
