Naturalizer Partners with Customers to Donate $20,000 to ShelterBox
Naturalizer Partners with Customers to Donate $20,000 to ShelterBox

Naturalizer, a brand of Brown Shoe Company, Inc., (NYSE: BWS, www.brownshoe.com), will donate $20,000 to international disaster relief organization ShelterBox as part of its Friends of Naturalizer 2010 campaign, a shopping fundraiser designed to engage the brand’s U.S. and Canadian consumers in supporting a philanthropic organization with a mission that inspires them.

News ImageEstablished in 2009, the Friends of Naturalizer event asks shoppers to vote at Naturalizer.com and Naturalizer.ca for which of three philanthropic organizations will receive a donation. Then, for every pair of shoes and handbag purchased during the Friends of Naturalizer voting period, the brand contributes $1.00 to the charity with the most votes, up to $20,000.

Friends of Naturalizer 2010 asked shoppers to select from three organizations whose missions – providing shelter, fighting hunger and preserving family health – are important to the brand’s consumers. ShelterBox, an organization that responds to natural or manmade disasters worldwide by delivering boxes that supply an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless, garnered 55% percent of consumer votes.

“We know our consumers care about supporting organizations that strive to better the world around us, so we wanted to engage them in determining where to make our donation,” said Naturalizer Marketing Director, Yolonda Curtin. “Thanks to our customers who voted and purchased during Friends of Naturalizer 2010, we are donating the maximum amount of $20,000 to ShelterBox, an organization that helps so many people by providing life’s essentials when they are most needed.”

In the 10 years since its inception, ShelterBox has helped supply people in more than 90 countries during more than 100 disasters, including earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes. One 49 gallon box (the ShelterBox) contains such essentials as a 10-person tent and repair kit, vinyl insulated sleeping mats, lightweight thermal blankets, water purification kit, water carriers, tool kits and a multi-fuel cooking stove. When an individual or group makes a donation to ShelterBox they will be given a specific box number that their donation has helped fund. Donors can then track their box and find out where in the world it has been sent.

“We are thrilled to be the recipients of this generous donation. Naturalizer is one of the leaders in showing good corporate social responsibility, and this contribution is an investment in saving lives in our global community,” said Veronica Brandon Miller, Executive Director of ShelterBox USA.

Naturalizer.com and Naturalizer.ca offered shoppers a 30 percent Friends and Family discount during Friends of Naturalizer 2010, as a thank you for participating. The two other organizations will receive an additional donation for their involvement in the campaign.
